George R. Mann

George Richard Mann (1856-1939) was a prominent architect in Little Rock, Arkansas. Mann designed the Pyramid Place building, the annex to the Pulaski County Courthouse, the Gus Blass Department Store, the Arkansas State Capitol, the Turner-Mann House, the Gazette Building, and the Boyle Tower.

Mann was born to Richard F. Mann and Elizabeth Defreese Mann on July 2, 1856, in Syracuse, Indiana. He studied architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the 1870s. Upon graduation he worked at architectural firm McKim, Mead, and White, in New York. In 1879 Mann established an independent firm in Minneapolis before quickly relocating to St. Joseph, Missouri. There he married Carrie L. Rock. In 1899 he began work on the Arkansas State Capitol building.
