The Bank of the Ozarks, Inc. began as two community banks in Jasper and Ozark, Arkansas. the Jasper bank was established in 1903 and the Ozark bank in 1937. George Gleason bought the two banks in 1979 and combined their assets. Bank of the Ozarks went public in July 1997.

In 2009 the bank claimed assets of $3.2 billion. The bank has twenty-six branches in central Arkansas.
