J. C. Penney Department Store was a prominent downtown Little Rock retailer located at 505 Main Street. In November 1967 J. C. Penney opened the largest department store in the state at University Mall on University Avenue in the Little Rock suburbs. The University Mall located boasted 175,000 square feet of retailing space plus an automotive center.
