The Y.M.C.A. of Metropolitan Little Rock has been providing educational, spiritual, and recreational services in the city of Little Rock since 1885.
YMCA History
In 1910 the Little Rock YMCA building was located at the corner of Scott Street and Capitol Avenue. This building in 2009 is occupied by the offices of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
The Central Branch YMCA building was constructed in the Mission-Spanish Revival style on the northwest corner of South Broadway and West Sixth streets (524 Broadway) in 1928. The building was designed by George Richard Mann and Howard Seymour Stern. During Jim Crow the Central Branch was for whites-only.
The YMCA Recreation Building for African Americans was located at 1100 West Ninth Street.
