Traffic lights became a feature of the urban landscape of Little Rock in 1959. The first traffic signals were installed in that year at the following intersections: Third & High, Stifft's Station, Markham & Van Buren, Markham & University, Twelfth & University, Asher & University, Asher & Fair Park Boulevard, and Twelfth & Fair Park. The traffic engineer for the city supervising the installation of lights was Henry M. DeNoble.
