St. James United Methodist Church

St. James United Methodist Church at 321 Pleasant Valley Drive in Little Rock was chartered on April 6, 1969. The first service in the building took place on October 11, 1970.

The congregation first worshiped in the Methodist Children's Home chapel. The first pastor of the church was Joe R. Phillips, Jr.. In July 1976 John P. Miles succeeded to the position of pastor, and the next year he received the assistance of Robert E. L. Bearden. James E. Major joined the clergy as associate pastor of finance and stewardship in June 1981. In November 1983 the church opened a new sanctuary to accommodate a congregation that had grown from 96 to 3,000 member. Other additions include the JoAnn and John Miles Education Building for Children and Youth and the Martha Lynn and Felix Thompson Music Suite.

Jack Wilson became senior pastor upon the retirement of Miles in 1995. The senior pastor since 2004 has been Fred Haustein.
