James Clay Clark was a Conway attorney with the firm of Clark & Clark. Clark was born in Tennessee. He was educated at the Harrison Academy in Tennessee and at Quitman College in Quitman, Arkansas. He studied law privately and was admitted to the bar in 1890.

His partner in the firm of Clark & Clark was William J. Clark. Both served as attorneys to Faulkner County Bank and the Hendrix College Endowment Fund.
