Elizabeth Ann Eckford was a student and member of the Little Rock Nine during the Little Rock Crisis of 1957. Eckford attempted to enter and integrate Central High School on September 4, 1957, but was turned away. A second attempt on September 23rd. Following the second attempt, President Dwight D. Eisenhower intervened by sending troops to Little Rock to protect the Nine as they attempted to integrate the school.
