Daisy L. Gatson Bates (1914-1999) was advisor to the Little Rock Nine during the 1957 Central High School desegregation crisis. Bates was also publisher with her husband L. C. Bates of the Arkansas State Press newspaper beginning in May 1941. The newspaper competed with the black publication Southern Mediator Journal.

Daisy Bates was born in Huttig, Arkansas. Her mother was killed by three white men when she was eight years old.

President's Day is also celebrated annually as Daisy Gatson Bates Day in Arkansas.
