The Clinton Birthplace is located at 117 South Hervey Street in Hope, Arkansas. Bill Clinton (then named William Jefferson Blythe) lived here with his biological grandparents Eldred and Edith Cassidy from August 19, 1946 until 1950, when his father was killed in a car accident. Clinton and his mother - who had been away at nursing school - then moved into the home of her second husband Roger Clinton.
The home is a typical two-and-one-half story American four-square home built in 1917 from a patternbook by Dr. H.S. Garrett. The home contains 2,100 square feet of living space.
The Clinton Birthplace museum opened in a neighboring home on June 1, 1997. The museum features an oval office rug woven by Kaki Hockersmith, typical 1950s-era toys, and the Virginia Kelley Clinton Memorial Garden. The museum is managed by the Clinton Birthplace Foundation under director Martha Berryman.
