Burr Walter Torreyson

Burr Walter Torreyson was the second president of the University of Central Arkansas, what was then called Arkansas State Normal School, serving from 1917 to 1930.

Torreyson was a former Fort Smith High School principal. Torreyson had served on the school's board of trustees from 1908 to 1917 before becoming president. Over this period he also served as a state school inspector.

Three major building projects took place during the Torreyson administration including the Administration Building (now known as Old Main), Torreyson Library, and the Training School. Also during his administration, in 1925, the school's name changed to Arkansas State Teachers College.

Doyne was born on December 10, 1855, in Hillsboro, Virginia. He died in Conway on May 29, 1932.
