Bighead Carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) is a nonindigenous species of eastern Chinese fish invasive to the Arkansas River watershed. Bighead carp have been fished from the waters of the river as far north as Pine Bluff, Arkansas, as well as between Wilbur D. Mills Dam No. 2 and the Mississippi River outlet. The fish is also found in the White River National Wildlife Refuge and in local municipal sewage lagoons, where it is actively stocked.

Bighead carp were imported into Arkansas in 1972 by a private fish farmer for his culture ponds. They escaped to open waters by the early 1980s. Bighead compete with several local fish species, including paddlefish, bigmouth buffalo, and gizzard shad.
