Julia Burnelle “Bernie” Smade Babcock (1868-1962) was the founder of the Arkansas Natural History Museum. The Natural History Museum is the forerunner of the present Arkansas Museum of Discovery in the Little Rock River Market.

Babcock was also the author of The Daughter of a Republican, The Soul of Abe Lincoln, and The Soul of Ann Rutledge. She supervised authors at the Federal Writer's Project during the Great Depression, and served as a reporter and book reviewer for the Arkansas Democrat newspaper.
