James William Mehaffy was an attorney in the general practice firm of Mehaffy, Reid, Donham & Mehaffy of Little Rock, Arkansas. Partners in the firm were Tom Miller Mehaffy, Charles Chester Reid, William Robert Donham, and J.W. Mehaffy.

The firm served as counsel to the American Bauxite Company, Standard Oil Company of Louisiana, Wells Fargo & Company, Hayes Grain, and the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Offices of the firm were located at 715-721 the Boyle Building.

James William Mehaffy was born in Saline County, Arkansas, on December 26, 1886. He received his A.B. degree from Henderson-Brown College in 1909 and his legal education from the University of Arkansas. He was admitted to the bar in 1911. From 1913 to 1917 he was the city attorney for the City of Little Rock.
