Cowie Wine Cellars in Carbon City, Arkansas, was founded by Robert G. "Bob" Cowie, who began making wines in 1955 as a teenager. His interest stemmed from his fascination with the miracle of fermentation. Cowie Wine Cellars offers a wide range of wine making supplies for the amateur wine maker. The winery holds three major events each year: the Cowie International Amateur Wine Competition, Arkansas Heritage Day, and the annual Cowie Wine Fest and Arkansas Championship Grape Stomp. The Amateur Wine Competition is held on the last Saturday of April each year. Arkansas Heritage Day is celebrated on the first Saturday of May. Cowie's Arkansas Historic Wine Museum sponsors a special theme each year. Wine Fest takes place after harvest time in mid-September. A live band performs while visitors stomp the grapes.
