Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission

The Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission (ANHC) is charged with the protection of statewide biodiversity by focusing on scientific conservation and environmental preservation efforts. The commission maintains the Arkansas Heritage Program biodiversity database, which holds information on more than eight hundred rare or threatened species in the state. The ANHC also maintains a protected state "System of Natural Areas."
The ANHC was formed in 1973, and is an agency within the Department of Arkansas Heritage.
