The Arkansas Historic Wine Museum is located just west of Paris, Arkansas. It was founded by Robert G. Cowie and his wife Bette Kay in 1994. The mission of the museum is to uphold the heritage and tradition of wine making in Arkansas.
The history of Wine in Arkansas is traced all the way back from the early explorers of Europe to Catholic priests who carried wine with them while traveling from place to place. Because the museum is full of wine collected from all over the state, the wine bottles are known to be labeled with interesting names such as, "Sure Shot", "Sailor Girl", "Big Daddy",and "Eight Ball."
Other wineries in Arkansas include: Mount Bethel Winery, Cowie Wine Cellars, Chateau Aux Arc Vineyards & Winery, Post Familie Vineyards & Winery, and Wiederkehr Wine Cellars and Vineyard. The Arkansas Historic Wine Museum expanded in March 2006, opening a branch museum at the Winery of Hot Springs, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. People are free to visit the museum any day of the week.
