The Arkansas Chamber Singers is a nonprofit central Arkansas chamber choir. The current artistic director and conductor is John Erwin.

Chamber Singers History

The Arkansas Chamber Singers was founded in 1979 by Barbara Abramoff Levy. The group began offering public concerts in 1981. Their first production, in April 1981, was called "Musical Frolic" and performed at the Arkansas Territorial Restoration. In May 1981 the group performed at Riverfest.

The chamber group performed again in May 1983. Their program, performed at the Old State House was called "America Sings!"

In December 1983 and again the next year the Arkansas Chamber Singers performed "Amahl & The Night Visitors" with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. In January 1984 the group performed again with the symphony in the "Requiem" by Giuseppe Verdi and in February 1985 the "Magnificat" by Johann Sebastian Bach.

The group gave a concert at the gubernatorial of Jim Guy Tucker in December 1992. They also performed at the presidential inaugural dinner for Bill Clinton in January 1993.

The Arkansas Chamber Singers celebrated their twentieth anniversary with the commissioned piece "The Golden Harp" by Gwyneth Walker, first performed in March 1999.
