Rollin A. Edgerton
Rollin A. Edgerton was Little Rock postmaster in the 1880s. He served on the board of the Little Rock School District from 1876 to 1895.
Edgerton was born on October 27, 1840, in Pawlet, Vermont. He parents were Marson Edgerton and Betsy Melissa Brown. Edgerton clerked in a Fremont, Ohio, hardware store after graduating from St. Lawrence Academy in Potsdam, N.Y. During the Civil War he fought with Company F of the Eighth Ohio Volunteers. He fought at Shiloh, the siege of Corinth, Grand Gulf, the first and second battles at Jackson, and the siege of Vicksburg.
President U.S. Grant named Edgerton commissioned receiver of public moneys for the Little Rock district in 1870. On December 31, 1881, he was appointed postmaster by President Chester A. Arthur. He also served as secretary of Little Rock Cooperage Company, president of the Baring Cross Bridge Company, vice president of the local Exchange Bank, and board member of the Iron Mountain Railroad.
