The Arkansas Aircraft Company was founded in 1926 by civil aviation promoter John Carroll Cone and W. F. Moody. Cone and Moody soon hired chief engineer Albert Vollmecke. The company was sold in 1927 to Memphis businessman Robert Snowden Jr., who changed the name of the company to Command-Aire. Cone became the sales director of the new company. Command-Aire rapidly became the top airplane manufacturer in the South before collapsing in January 1930 as other manufacturers merged and became dominant players in the nascent aviation industry.
