The Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy (MIRT), located at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, is a center for research and treatment of multiple myeloma and related disorders. Myeloma, one of the incurable diseases, is a type of cancer of plasma cells. Hence, MIRT is closely associated with the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, which is also a part of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

History and Mission

The institute was founded in 1989 by Dr. Bart Barlogie.

It is one of the largest centers in the world for myeloma treatment and research. The main mission of MIRT is to study the genetics of multiple myeloma and investigate curative therapies.
