George L. Basham was a Democratic lawyer and real estate agent in Little Rock Arkansas.
Basham was born on March 23, 1848 in rural Johnson County, Arkansas. His parents were O. Basham and Martha Basham. His father served at Fort Gibson during the Mexican War, later becoming an elected member of the Arkansas state legislature (1851-1853), and state treasurer (1861-1862). His father was killed in a Civil War battle at Pilot Knob, Missouri in 1864. George was also present at the battle, but survived.
After the war George Basham attended St. John's College in Little Rock and studied law at Gallagher & Newton. He was admitted to the bar in 1878 and entering private practice. He served as a board member for the Little Rock School District from 1901 to 1904.
