J. V. Zimmerman was a Little Rock, Arkansas, jeweler and watch repairman. Zimmerman was born in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, to William and Mary Zimmerman. He learned the jeweler's trade at Leibert & Brown in Norristown. In June 1857 he moved to Little Rock and worked with jeweler and watchmaker D. C. Fulton. During the Civil War Zimmerman enlisted with the Capitol Guard of Little Rock. He was present at the Battle of Shiloh, and eventually rose to the rank of captain. After the war Zimmerman opened his own shop on Markham Street and married Mary Fisher. He later moved his shop to 313 Main Street.
