President Clinton Avenue in the River Market |
President Clinton Avenue is a renamed stretch of old Markham Street in downtown Little Rock. City officials decided to rename the street shortly after Bill Clinton selected the historic River Market District as the future home of his presidential library on November 8, 1997. Twenty-one blocks of the street were officially renamed in honor of the ex-president in July 1999.
The decision to rename the street ignited controversy, in part because Markham is the oldest street in the city of Little Rock.
