Origins
Dallas, Texas
Gideon originated in Dallas, Texas in 2003 by an entire family devoted to education. After 12 years in the field, they realized students needed more than they were getting in school. They founded Gideon Math & Reading to provide children supplemental help in math and reading. There are now about 20 centers around the country. Gideon is not a franchise operation. Each center is independent, offering personalized service and programs based on the specific needs of its community.
Little Rock Operations
Little Rock – 2004
Gideon opened in Little Rock in March of 2004. Our initial programming was also supplemental tutoring in math and reading. Parents brought their children to Gideon for educational enrichment. However, after the first year, it became apparent that some students needed more than just supplemental help.
After much research, we learned that 15% of the people in this country have a learning disability (LD). 20% have a reading disability. Of those, 85% have dyslexia. Toss in the fact that ADD/ADHD often occurs simultaneously with a learning disability. That means that in the average classroom there are probably 4 or 5 children who are struggling to learn. We realized we needed to offer more programming to meet the diverse needs of the students.
Little Rock – Today
Gideon Math & Reading has evolved into a full service center for anyone wanting help with learning. We provide instruction in most subjects, including math, science, and foreign languages. We offer an Accelerated Learning curriculum for students desiring educational enrichment, a Home School Support program, and our 2-week Summer Math Prep/Review courses. Gideon provides Educational Evaluations in house and referrals for those who prefer more comprehensive testing.
Gideon offers one of the most intensive multisensory programs in the area for remediating learning difficulties. Our highly successful Intensive Reading and Math Therapy is available year round with the summer curriculum allowing students to make amazing gains in a matter of weeks.
"Helping children learn, improving self-esteem, and creating successful students is our passion! "
