John L. Ward is a former public relations director to Winthrop Rockefeller. He is also former managing editor of the Log Cabin Democrat. Ward taught journalism at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and acted as director of information services for the University of Arkansas System before joining the University of Central Arkansas as vice president for public affairs in 1988. Ward has served as president of the UCA Foundation and is current trustee of the Winthrop Rockefeller Charitable Trust.

Ward has authored two books about Winthrop Rockefeller: The Arkansas Rockefeller (1978) and Winthrop Rockefeller, Philanthropist: A Life of Change (2004). He is also a former director of The Oxford American literary magazine.

Ward lives in Bee Branch, Arkansas.
