 In the 1960s the company began an innovative program of computer-aided manufacturing and inventory control with IBM 360 mainframes. Ward exploited this experience gathered in the data processing department of the family bus company to found spinoff Demographics Inc. with brother [[Stephen Ward]] in November 1969.  The company attempted to diversify its client base by accepting data processing jobs from local Conway businesses "no matter how small." One of the earliest customers was the bus company itself, which in the 1950s processed its own inventory, payroll, financial records on an IBM 402 Accounting Machine and after December 1, 1966, on an IBM/System 360 Model 20. The company also secured a contract with local utility provider [[Conway Corp]] to process customer billing statements. Another early client was Conway's [[Nabholz Construction]]. More than fifty businesses contracted a variety of data processing services by 1974.
