Richard N. McLeod, Jr. was born in 1929 in Hot Springs, (Garland County) Arkansas, USA to parents Richard McLeod (Louisiana, 1901-1979) and Jollie McLeod (Arkansas, 1906-1970). McLeod, Jr had one other sibling, a sister named Rosemary Reynolds (née McLeod, July 31st, 1927 – November 28th, 1999).
Richard N. McLeod, Jr. served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 55th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team, as a 1st Lieutenant. His I.D. number was 0-1913464.

His is buried in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas, USA and memorialized at the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
