He attended Arkansas State Teachers College beginning in September of 1940 and graduated in May of 1943 with a bachelor of science. Sims also attended Drexel Institute of Technology at Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity while he was a student at Arkansas State Teachers College.
