Lawrence Rushing died on February 7th, 1944 from non-combat related head injuries. A truck pulling a water tank skidded, causing the water tank to fall off and onto Rushing. He died in Gioia del Colle, Città Metropolitana di Bari, Puglia, Italy. Lieutenant Rushing is buried in the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery, Nettuno, Italy at Plot J Row 2 Grave 31.

Lieutenant Lawrence Marion Rushing

Rushing entered into the U.S. Army Air Corps at the age of 23 in Woodruff County, Augusta, Arkansas on October 16, 1940. He was began service on December, 1940 with the 133rd infantry. (His service number was 747324.) In May of 1943, Rushing was promoted to Second Lieutenant, the rank which he maintained until his death in 1944. Lieutenant Rushing also served with the Army Air Corps 451st Bomber Group, 727th Bomber Squadron.
