Specialist Four Donald White

June 12, 1950 - October 11, 1970

Personal History

Donald "Don" Nisler White was born in Plumerville, Arkansas but grew up in Morrilton, Arkansas. He has one brother, Bill Mitchell. He graduated from Morrilton High School in 1968 where he played football and made the All-District team his senior year. White talked about entering the military after high school, but his mother was against it. In the fall of 1968, Donald enrolled at Arkansas Teachers State College in Conway, Arkansas where he also enrolled in the ROTC program.


Military History

Specialist Four White entered into the Army in January 1969 and did basic training at Ft. Polk, Louisiana. He was assigned to the 23rd Infantry Division in Chu Lai Vietnam and was further assigned to 1st Battalion 20th Infantry, 11th Light Infantry Brigade, 23rd Infantry Division (Americal).

Death

On October 11, 1970, Specialist Four White died in Quang Ngai, South Vietnam from gunshot wounds to the head and right arm from a small arms fire. He is currently buried in Plumerville Cemetery.
