Lieutenant Arthur H. Allen, Jr.

Arthur H. Allen, Jr. entered the U.S. Army Air Corps from Arkansas. He served with the Army Air Corps, 21st Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron as a Second Lieutenant.

Personal History

Arthur H. Allen, Jr. was born in 1920 in Garland County, Arkansas to parents Arthur H. Allen and Jessie M. Allen. He had three siblings: Mary Lu Allen, Billy Allen, and Mary Anna Allen. Allen, Jr. attended Arkansas State Teachers College from 1937-1941 and then joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. During his time at The Arkansas State Teachers College Allen was on the football squad and was also a member of Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity.


Death

Lieutenant Arthur H. Allen, Jr. died on Thursday, August 3, 1944 on the south coast of China. Allen, Jr. never returned from a mission over Hainan Island and was declared missing in action (MIA) and buried at sea. His remains are still unrecovered, however he is memorialized at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, in Metro Manila National Capital Region, Philippines.
