Captain Robert T. Mills
Robert T. Mills served as a Captain with the 795th Army Air Forces Bomb Squad. During his time in the military, he served as a pilot. In 1938, Captain Mills was announced as a cadet officer for the citizens military training camp at Camp Joseph T. Robinson, along with Company D, William E. Bearden, Conway, captain. His service number was 01699063.
Personal History
Robert T. Mills was born on May 4, 1918 in Conway, Faulkner county, Arkansas to parents Louis Mills (Jan. 29, 1883 – Nov. 6, 1968) and Nettie Treece Mills (Dec. 3, 1887 - Feb. 9, 1959). Mills was brother of C. Maxine, P. Alphia, K. Louis, and V. Lawrence Mills. He joined the U.S. Army Air Forces where he served until his death.
Death
Captain Robert T. Mills died in action on July 29, 1944 aboard the U.S. Army Air Corps B-29 #42-6274 "Lady Hamilton." The plane was shot down by a Japanese fighter over China while returning from a bombing mission to Japan. Eight survived the crash, however three crew members perished, including Captain Mills (also, S/Sgt. Walker, S/Sgt. Richard Wehrle). Captain Mills is buried in the Little Rock National Cemetery in Little Rock, Arkansas at plot 21, 7490.
