Personal History

Richard N. McLeod, Jr. was born in 1929 in Hot Springs, (Garland County) Arkansas, USA to parents Richard McLeod (Louisiana, 1901-1979) and Jollie McLeod (Arkansas, 1906-1970). McLeod, Jr had one other sibling, a sister named Rosemary Reynolds (née McLeod, July 31st, 1927 – November 28th, 1999).

Military History

Richard N. McLeod, Jr. served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 55th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team, as a 1st Lieutenant. His I.D. number was 0-1913464.

Awards and Honors

Lieutenant McLeod, Jr. was awarded a Silver Star for his actions on March 6th, 1951.

Death

Lieutenant Richard N. McLeod, Jr. died on March 6th, 1951 in Seoul, Seoul Special City, South Korea at the age of 22 years old. Lieutenant McLeod, Jr. was killed in action while fighting the enemy in the Punchbowl Area. His is buried in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas, USA and memorialized at the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
