Murphy was born in Conway, AR. His parents were Captain and Mrs. F. T. Murphy. He attended Little Rock High School, Arkansas Polytechnic College, and the Arkansas State Teachers College from June 1942 through January 1943.
He entered the United States Army Air Corps on 27 January 1943.
Death
He died in the Panama Canal Zone.
