About Honors Academics
Life is a conversation. We enter life with the conversation already going. We try to get the drift of it. And we leave the world with the conversation still going.—K. Burke
The Honors College serves the University of Central Arkansas and the larger community by providing a specially designed curriculum of interdisciplinary studies for academically talented and motivated undergraduate students.
The Honors College Curriculum Serves UCA
The Honors College serves academic programs across the UCA campus by attracting and retaining bright students, providing personalized attention to distinguished undergraduate scholars, maintaining a reputation for excellence in academic and co-curricular programming, and developing new and innovative models for classroom instruction and curriculum delivery.
Characteristics of Honors Classes
Honors courses are gateways to sustained interaction with professors and top students. They are built around participation, and therefore are smaller than typical UCA classes. The major focus of an honors class is not on increasing the workload. Instead, honors courses focus on nourishing the life of the mind.
- Emphasis on oral and written communication
- Enrichment rather than extra work
- Interaction and collaboration
